A Brief History

On March 10, 1871, representatives from 23 churches in the London area met in Soho Chapel, Oxford Street, to form the Metropolitan Association of Strict Baptist Churches. Since then, the boundaries of the Association have grown to include the South-East corner of England, from Essex across to Oxfordshire, then south to Hampshire. In 1986, the name was changed to the Association of Grace Baptist Churches (South East). At present, the Association includes 57 churches.

What we believe

The latest statement of teaching that each church must believe to join the Association was agreed in 1985. This shows that we take:

Some of the things we do

Association Evangelist
We employ a man to work full time helping churches with their outreach

Home Mission research
We have a consultant who suggests ways of making the gospel speak to the unchurched

Local Church fellowship
South-East England is divided into five districts, where churches can do things together, such as pray or learn about Christian life and witness. For example, you can view here the 1998 Diary of the South East District of the Association.

Legal matters
We have our own trust company, who can hold trusts on behalf of Particular Baptist churches.
